EarthDawn is an epic roleplaying game, it takes place in a world 10,000 years before now, only difference is, this world now magic.
You live in a new era, just after the Scourge has resided and everyone is rebuilding the tiny bit of civilization that is left, your character(s) are the ones on who society must trust to deal with the Horrors, beings of tremendous power and evil. You are Adepts. Adepts are people gifted with the ability to bend magic and accomplish heroic feats. Each Adepts follows his own Discipline, be it Archer, Warrior, Wizard, Nethermancer or Troubadour they all help in their own way, by building legends of great deeds or by just building the walls around a town, no one is expendable and even though Horrors, money, hatred and jealousy often corrupt people, the Scourge has thought many a lesson they will never forget.
Also there are many Races in EarthDawn, the main Races (called Namegivers )who are the most common to Barsaive are:
Windlings: a small race of faerie like beings, joyful and flying people who make everything a party and party at everything.
Orks: possibly the most 'cursed' Race once, now they are freed from the bonds of slavery and rebuilding their lost civilization.
Trolls: the large, fierce Trolls know a great deal of honor and they will never leave a slight to their honor unrevenged.
Obsidimen: Obsidimen are large rock-men, they have no distinctive sex. They are slow of action and slow to anger, except when one makes a slight against a Obsidimen's LifeRock, his home.
Human: Humans are the most versatile of the Namegiver Races, they have a magic within that allows them to learn almost anything.
Dwarves: the small, but sturdy Dwarves are the builders among us, they have a knack for building and creating that is unsurpassed.
Elves: Elves mostly hail from the forests and jungles of our lands, they are a tall and gracious people, who are quite refined and unrefined in many ways.
